To mark the event, there are numerous events taking place in the US and the UK including tributes at venues ranging from New York’s Jazz at Lincoln Center, Chicago’s Theatre Building, The Library of Congress, The Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall, and, in the UK, tributes by BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 4. |  | RADIOHEAD TEAMS WITH WARNER/CHAPPELL “In Rainbows” is the latest Radiohead album. This magnificent album is an album with a difference. Not only was a download of this album made available from the band’s website on a ‘pay-what-you-want’ basis some 3 months prior to the physical release but now the digital rights are available on a ‘one-stop-shop’ basis. This means that to license digital rights in the album there is no need to go anywhere other than Warner/Chappell – no record company or copyright society is involved as Warner/Chappell controls both the publishing and (digital) master rights in the album.  | ASCAP LONDON AWARDS On Wednesday, October 15, 2008, ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) honoured the UK’s top writer and publisher members of the PRS (Performing Right Society) at a ceremony held at The Grosvenor House Hotel in London. Dido was named Songwriter of the Year and was recognized for the songs "Thank You" and "White Flag". Also honoured were New Order for "Blue Monday", Paolo Nutini, Mathew Benbrook and James Duguid who picked up their first ASCAP award for "New Shoes" and Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood for the film 'There Will Be Blood'.
|  | BMI LONDON AWARDS BMI celebrated Warner/Chappell writers Eric Clapton, Barry Gibb, Joe Belmatti and Mich Cutfather at the London BMI awards on 7th October 2008. The awards ceremony held in The Grand Ballroom of London’s Dorchester Hotel honored the past year’s most-played songs on U.S. radio and television. Joe Belmatti and Mich Cutfather’s song "Deal With It" (performed by Corbin Bleu) won a prestigious Pop award. The esteemed “Million-Air” certificates were presented for Eric Clapton’s "Layla", which received an award in recognition of seven million broadcast performances and Barry Gibb’s "If I Can’t Have You" in recognition of three million broadcast performances. | | ELBOW WIN MERCURY PRIZE We are absolutely delighted to announce that Elbow have won the 2008 Nationwide Mercury prize for their fourth album The Seldom Seen Kid. Elbow fought off heavy competition including Radiohead, Adele, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, Laura Marling and the bookies’ favourite, Burial to win the prize. They were one of nine nominees to perform at the ceremony last night (September 9th) at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London. Accepting the award, Elbow singer Guy Garvey told the audience that winning was “the best thing that has ever happened to us". Produced by the band, The Seldom Seen Kid was released by Fiction/Polydor on 17 March 2008.
